ONCE IN A LIFETIME – 16 YEAR OLD BRUICHLADDICH RIVESALTES

This is an amazingly rare and amazingly delicious cask that we have been searching for for a very long time.

The spirit is un-peated Bruichladdich, the most popular of the many different distillates the distillery have created over the years. The spirit when newly made has bags of flavour and is already delicious when bottled as a young whisky. Now given 16 years to mature in exceptional ex-Rivesaltes wood, we have a really special whisky on our hands.

The distillery has always had a special place in our hearts, being one of our all time favourite whiskies, and Bruichladdich being the destination of our first trip to Islay. This is definitely a desert island dram for us. You’ll agree when you try it!

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

There was a time when Bruichladdich distillery readily sold casks to whisky lovers and the indy whisky world, however, that is now a by-gone era. What this means is that with each passing year, those independently owned casks are dwindling either through bottling or through the big, burly Islay angels taking their share.

When we founded Uncharted, we set out to find a Bruichladdich cask we would be happy to bottle. It’s taken 3 and a half years, but here it is. We sincerely hope this won’t be the last to grace our glass but it might just be Once In A Lifetime.

Un-filtered. Natural colour. Cask Strength. Individually number by hand.

Distilled at Bruichladdich Distillery
16 years old
Full maturation in ex-Rivesaltes Barrique
ABV 61.2%
70cl

Nose: Milk chocolate, raisins, dessert wine, slight ocean salt and maybe a touch of lemon.

Palate:
The palate starts bright and zingy. A burst of ripe berries mellow to the delicate Rivesaltes dessert wine influence. This is a mature and rounded sweetness with hints of Thorntons special toffee, lemon and leather.

Finish: The intricate dessert wine eventually gives way to a spicy oak with a myriad of mellow spices
