Killer Queen- elegance and grace in a glass. This is a beautifully balanced un-peated single malt whisky from Glen Elgin. The 11 year maturation has been finished in decadent first-fill ex-Madeira octave casks.
Madeira is a rich, sweet wine similar to Sherry or Port. However, the wine is aged uniquely using oak casks and warm cellars to oxidise the wine. The resulting ex-Madeira infused casks are highly sought after in the whisky industry. The Madeira infused wood adds beautiful, honey-ridden floral flavours to whisky. By using Octaves- very small casks about one eighth the size of a normal cask- we increase contact between the wood and the spirit which seriously enhances the influence of the Madeira infused oak on the spirit. Glen Elgin spirit is renowned for it’s floral nature. Pairing the delicate spirit with this cask maturation is killer.
The beautiful orange hue colouration is natural, the whisky is un-chill filtered and the ABV is cask strength. Our rather gorgeous bottles- befitting a Queen one could muse- are each filled and labelled by hand in small batches. Available for pre-order now this release will be ready for shipping end of April 2022.
WHY THE NAME - KILLER QUEEN?
This single malt is the most elegant Uncharted Whisky to date. It’s subtle, it’s delicate, it’s fruit laden, it’s sweet. It’s an absolute Killer.
Glen Elgin distillery is a stones throw from the main road heading from the heart of Speyside into Elgin town. It was built in 1898 and designed by the famous Charles Doig who accredited with designing 56 distilleries including Tamdhu, Aberlour and Pulteney.
The distillery got off to a rather troubled- the whisky industry famously crashed at the turn of the century, right before construction was completed. Very much a case of right place, wrong time! Production of this light and fragrant spirit didn’t achieve stability for years after it had already been bought and sold several times!
Today the spirit flows consistently and in great quantity from 6 copper stills where oak ageing creates a famously floral and delicate spirit.
DETAILS & TASTING NOTES
Ripe freshly peeled oranges, touch of tart and lemon with faint aromas of delicate white wine, stone fruit and white blossom.
Soft and dainty sweetness arrives first which gradually unfolds itself. Watered honey and blossom emerge accompanied by fresh lychees and a fresh and elegant white wine fades to an orange oil warmth.
The orange fragrant warmth fades mingling with the rest of the Summer fruit basket for a long, smooth and utterly silken finish.
