A rare species of Japanese oak, Mizunara is seldom used for whisky maturation due to its high cost and inclination to leak. The exceptional Mizunara barrels, combined with superior Oloroso puncheons and hogsheads, have created an incredibly indulgent and complex single malt.
We proudly present this Masters of Wood bottling at 50% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered, allowing its exceptional character to reign supreme.
This incredibly indulgent and complex single malt marries spirit matured in prized Mizunara barrels and superior Oloroso puncheons and hogshead casks, resulting in a moreish notes of spiced apple crumble, dark chocolate, toasted nuts and orange zest.
MIZUNARA OAK
A rare species of Japanese oak, Mizunara is seldom used for whisky maturation due to its high cost as well as the challenges it poses in coopering and maturation. Its tendency to twist as it grows creates issues for stave production, and its porous nature makes it inclined to leak. Additionally, the trees must grow to be around 200 years old before being felled; twice the age of most oak species used for casks.
OLOROSO SHERRY
Sherry is a type of fortified wine made in southern Spain’s Andalusia region. Subjected to extensive oxidative ageing without a ‘flor’ yeast layer, Oloroso is the darkest dry Sherry style and is made from white Palomino grapes. Renowned for its pronounced nutty, dried fruit qualities, Oloroso roughly translates to ‘fragrant’ and is full-bodied and complex in character.
COLOUR: Intense Mahogany.
NOSE: Heather honey, dried orange peel and crystalised ginger, with notes of cocoa,
toasted tobacco leaves and fresh vanilla pods.
TASTE: Baking spices, dried blood orange and grilled honeycomb, followed by bursts of rich cocoa, poached cinnamon apples and fig syrup, with pecans and demerara sugar.
